Kaalavela / കാളവേല

Kaalavela / കാളവേല!

This photo was taken by my cousin (Sanoop) using a Nikon D40x and the standard Nikkor 18-55 lens in Cherpulassery, Kerala, India. The procession of the bull motifs is an important ritual of the local temple festival (പുത്തനാല്‍ക്കല്‍ ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രം) which also marks the beginning of the festival season in the valluvanad(വള്ളുവനാട്) region of my home state - Kerala.

Processed: Picassa 3 & Adobe Photoshop
Aperture: f/3.8
Shutter: 1/30
Focal Length: 20mm

When we were driving through the night to get to the airport in Cochin in the morning, I would doze in the car and wake up sporadically. I did not want to sleep but the humidity and heat of Kerala left me drained.

Once I woke up and although it was not Kaalavela, there was a wedding in some rural town. It was, of course, very dark. The colours here, and the lighting reminded me so much of that ride and visual memory, I just wanted to thank you.
